The Director of Accounting is responsible for overseeing all aspects of corporate accounting, financial reporting, and compliance. This role ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial statements while leading accounting operations, developing internal controls, and supporting organizational growth. The ideal candidate is a strategic and hands-on leader with deep technical accounting expertise and strong communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation, review, and submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
- Oversee external audits and manage relationships with auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies.
- Maintain and enhance internal control frameworks.
Accounting Operations
- Direct all day‑to‑day accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and accruals.
- Manage month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Evaluate and implement process improvements to streamline accounting operations.
Technical Accounting
- Provide guidance on complex accounting matters such as revenue recognition, consolidations, leases, and equity accounting.
- Research and interpret new accounting pronouncements and ensure proper implementation.
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and lead the accounting team, fostering continuous improvement and professional growth.
- Collaborate with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and strategic decision‑making.
- Support M&A due diligence and integration activities as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA required.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Experience in public accounting or a public company environment preferred.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage deadlines, and drive process improvements.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
