Job summary

Community Legal Aid SoCal in California is seeking a Directing Attorney for Access to Justice to oversee non-case handling Legal Services units including SHLAC, EDPP at the Los Angeles Superior Court in Compton, and the Small Claims Advisory Board in Orange County.

The Directing Attorney will be the primary owner and decision-maker for access-to-justice programs and special projects, reporting to the Director of Legal Services. A hybrid schedule is offered along with strong benefits.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor with active California Bar membership and strong knowledge of state/federal courts.
• Minimum 8 years as an attorney with 3+ years supervising staff.
• Travel frequently within the service area is required and valid driving license is needed.
• Experience in legal aid or nonprofit environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for non-case access-to-justice programs and ensure alignment with goals.
• Supervise and mentor supervising attorneys and staff via coaching and development.
• Collaborate with program leaders on planning, service delivery, and partnerships.
• Serve as liaison with courts, bar associations, govt agencies, and leadership.
• Oversee policy alignment and cross-functional funding compliance with grant requirements.
• Support grant development, reporting, and pro bono initiatives.
