Job summary

University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a DIRECTOR-ACADEMIC SERVICES to oversee the complete operation of academic services, including program creation, grant writing and renewal, budget development and staff supervision. The role includes developing programs and policies in coordination with the academic affairs part of the University and reporting to the Associate Dean.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a related field and four years of related experience required.
• Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Responsibilities

• Provides philosophical and operational direction to Academic Services, including counseling, academic advising, tutoring and teaching math and English remedial courses.
• Develops and oversees department budget; analyzes expenditures relative to federal guidelines; signs budget expenditures.
• Oversees the department’s personnel functions and supervises four full-time professionals, a secretary, and 35-plus part-time tutors; reviews contracts.
• Writes the program’s federal grant proposal each year ensuring compliance and documentation.
• Ensures eligible students meet federal requirements and manages grant objectives; handles program PR and advertising.
• Manages follow-up on all students; researches and writes Federal Student Performance reports; evaluates progress and takes action.
• Conducts regular evaluations on all programs and services provided by the grant.
• Ensures that financial aid is provided to eligible participants or documents reasons aid was not received.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
