Job description

Summary:

The Director of Nursing oversees daily operations for nursing and patient care in the Pediatrics, Pediatric Oncology, and Pediatric Intensive Care units at Westchester Medical Center. This role supervises, coordinates, and manages administrative aspects of assigned service lines, recommending clinical practice and administrative changes to the Sr. Director/Vice President of Patient Care Services. In the absence of the Sr. Director, the incumbent is responsible for the administration of these service lines.

Responsibilities include supervising staff, participating in clinical practice evaluations, establishing standards of practice, developing staff qualifications, implementing policies, participating in staff education and evaluations, coordinating clinical programs, staffing, quality improvement activities, and participating in hospital committees. The Director also assists in budget development and attends relevant meetings and seminars.

Experience:

Must possess a valid NYS Registered Nurse license, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, and six years of pediatric nursing experience, including three years in a supervisory role. A Master's degree in Nursing or related field can substitute for up to four years of experience, at a rate of 30 credits per year.

Other Requirements:

Education must be from an accredited institution. Candidates should have comprehensive knowledge of nursing techniques, administration, labor practices, the Nurse Practice Act, regulatory requirements, and possess leadership and communication skills. Proficiency in computer applications and sound professional judgment are also required.
