Job description

Overview:

Reports to Senior Vice President, Patient Care Services/CNO. Responsible for establishing, monitoring, and evaluating nursing standards of practice and quality improvement activities, including Human Resources and Education.

Responsibilities:
  1. Participate with senior leadership in setting the philosophy and goals of the Nursing Department.
  2. Monitor staffing plans to ensure safe patient care; oversee recruitment, hiring, and retention practices.
  3. Supervise Assistant Directors of Nursing, Nurse Managers, and Nursing Coordinators.
  4. Maintain knowledge of legal, regulatory, and union requirements; ensure compliance with state nursing practices.
  5. Communicate effectively with staff, departments, and medical staff; participate in joint planning.
  6. Lead data-driven Performance Improvement activities aligned with organizational goals.
  7. Establish standards and policies to promote safe, efficient patient care.
  8. Contribute to budget planning and resource allocation.
  9. Foster professional growth and monitor staff counseling and discipline.
  10. Provide clinical consultation and represent the Nursing Department on committees.
  11. Engage in continuing education to enhance clinical and administrative skills.
  12. Implement best practices in care and assume additional duties as assigned.
  13. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and participate in HCAPS initiatives.
  14. Promote team communication, diversity, and professional relationships.
  15. Develop and monitor patient satisfaction and quality improvement goals.
  16. Support staff in quality initiatives like CAUTI, CLABSI reduction, and fall prevention.
  17. Participate in PI data collection and analysis.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education: BSN from an accredited nursing school; Master’s in Nursing or related field or minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; Doctorate preferred.

Experience: Minimum 10 years of nursing experience.

Knowledge and Skills: Critical thinking, proficiency in Excel & Word, understanding of TQM, quality measures, clinical guidelines, and regulatory compliance. Ability to analyze data, lead quality initiatives, and work effectively across departments. Demonstrates leadership, professionalism, and excellent communication skills.

Licenses and Certifications: Current NY RN license, BLS, ACLS, PALS, and other specified certifications.

Physical Requirements:

High-stress environment, exposure to blood and body fluids, physical mobility, and on-call availability.
