Job summary

Texas State Historical Association in Austin, TX is seeking a Director of Accounting to lead nonprofit financial operations, GAAP compliance, and budgeting. The role requires involvement with grant accounting, payroll, year-end close, and audits.

Hybrid schedule with some travel; you will partner with leadership to ensure accurate reporting and sound financial management for the association and its programs.

Qualifications

• CPA license preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
• Minimum 3 years nonprofit accounting experience
• Experience with QuickBooks Online and membership/retail systems preferred
• Excellent written and interpersonal communication; Professional demeanor

Responsibilities

• Prepare annual budget and project budgets for grants.
• Monitor and present monthly financial statements to leadership and finance committee.
• Record grants, endowment, and related transactions; manage asset schedules.
• Process payroll and benefits; post payroll entries.
• Prepare 1099s and year-end tax returns; assist with audits.
• Maintain permanent records and banking relationships; support 5500 filings.
• Oversee month-end close, reconcile accounts, and prepare budget-to-actual analyses.
