This Director role is responsible for the Northeast book of business within our Commercial Middle Market Custom Solutions organization, leading a team of 5-8 territory managers.

Role Details
  • This is a remote / WFH (work-from-home) role, requiring about 33% travel throughout the territory as well as conferences and leadership / team meetings. Location preferences include any of the states within the territory (OH, PA, DE, MD, NJ, NY, CT, RI, MA, NH, VT, ME), with OH, PA, NY, or the Boston Metro area being especially ideal.
  • As a key driver of middle market growth, this leader must be action-oriented, able to work at a high pace for an extended period, and focused on advancing the business.
  • Qualified candidates should have prior technical underwriting experience (with authority) and existing broker / agency relationships.
  • Previous experience as a people leader is a plus, but not mandatory.

Job Summary

As a Director, you will lead a team of Territory Managers and Underwriters, focusing on sales, underwriting, and relationship management within a defined territory, primarily with agencies and brokers to expand business and ensure customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Monitor market conditions and gather intelligence to inform risk and account decisions.
  2. Analyze performance data to promote profitable growth.
  3. Guide pricing standards and underwriting strategies.
  4. Develop and execute sales plans to achieve financial goals.
  5. Build and maintain strong relationships with agency partners.
  6. Lead and coach team members, overseeing their development and performance.
  7. Collaborate across departments to support business objectives.
  8. Ensure high standards of customer service and operational efficiency.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to the Associate Vice President; direct reports include Territory Managers and Underwriters.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Relevant professional designation (e.g., CPCU, CIC) is preferred.
  • At least ten years of experience in commercial lines underwriting, sales, or agency management, with significant leadership experience preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of property/casualty insurance operations and markets.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
