Position: Director of Membership, Marketing, and Communication

Position Summary:
The Disability Management Employer Coalition (DMEC) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Membership, Marketing, and Communications who will be pivotal in developing and implementing strategic marketing and communication initiatives and driving membership growth. This position will be instrumental in enhancing our brand and messaging and expanding our membership base. This position is responsible for developing the marketing and business development strategy, department budget, and overseeing the lifecycle of the DMEC membership program. The ideal candidate is a dynamic professional with a proven marketing, membership management, and strategic planning track record. The Director will be a member of the senior leadership team, working collaboratively with the CEO and all departments to develop and implement comprehensive strategies that advance organizational goals and annual priorities.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive membership and engagement plan and strategy that aligns with DMEC’s mission and strategic planning goals, ensuring relevance and sustainability.
- Maximize the position of DMEC as the leading voice of absence and disability management through planning and execution of a strategic marketing and communication plan to increase awareness of membership recruitment and retention, DMEC programs, events, and initiatives.
- Develop and implement a multi-year road map for continued progression of DMEC’s business development efforts.
- Strategically guide external communication, including content creation, editing, design, production, and distribution for DMEC. These activities include but are not limited to collateral, media communication, printed publications, and digital content for use in DMEC websites, emails, and advertisements.
- Use organization’s vision, policies, culture, values, history, and programs to set overall leadership direction and goals for member identification, evaluation, recruitment, and retention.
- Creates and manages the annual membership, marketing, communications budget, including forecast development, expense scheduling and monitoring, and variance analysis.
- Ensure alignment between membership goals and the organization’s broader strategic plan, fostering collaboration across all departments.
Membership Acquisition, Engagement, and Retention
- Facilitate and utilize market research and member feedback to identify industry trends, opportunities, and challenges, and adjust marketing and membership program strategies accordingly.
- Oversee the membership lifecycle by implementing effective membership management systems and processes, including acquisition, onboarding, engagement, and retention.
- Develop and implement targeted membership recruitment campaigns to attract professionals, organizations, and stakeholders to join DMEC.
- Leverage analytics to identify key retention drivers, develop programs that strengthen membership, increase long-term loyalty, and enhance our business development efforts.
- Identify and pursue opportunities to grow membership in new markets.
Marketing Strategy and Execution
- Ensure DMEC’s message is distributed across relevant channels and to targeted audiences to meet strategic objectives and seek out new ways to deliver messaging, such as mobile platforms, video, and social media.
- Implement marketing best practices to fully leverage campaign execution.
- Evaluate DMEC’s external communications to identify opportunities to streamline and enhance content.
- Champion and implement key marketing technology or process initiatives required for marketing functions.
- Create and drive marketing plans to support organizational initiatives.
- Develop and execute comprehensive marketing strategies to increase brand awareness, promote all member benefits and events, and attract new members.
- Oversee the development of creative marketing campaigns, including digital marketing, social media, email marketing, and digital advertising, as well as print collateral, and events, to engage existing members and recruit new members.
- Oversee website and digital marketing, including web presence, content marketing, email marketing, paid advertising, and social media presence.
Communications and Business Development
- Oversee the development of promotional materials including copy for advertising, website content, brochures, direct mailings, renewal letters, new member packets, and other member communications.
- Approval of all outbound marketing collateral, including social media, weekly e-news blast, website content, and marketing promotional materials.
- Oversee content management of DMEC’s website.
- Develop and oversee implementation of the business development strategy for certification, online trainings, education, content, national partnerships, conference sponsorships, exhibits, and advertising.
Team Leadership and Collaboration
- Work closely with program team leaders to deliver unified strategies and initiatives that enhance member value.
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of 4 staff providing guidance, feedback, and professional development to ensure continued growth and success.
- Oversee management of external vendors providing services for marketing and communication activities.
- Foster a collaborative and creative environment, promoting innovation and best practices.
Reporting and accountability
- Develop and monitor metrics for measuring effectiveness of programs and initiatives and prepare reports on the value of member and partner engagement.
- Measure the member experience using tools to collect and analyze data including focus groups, satisfaction surveys, member help line issues, member community portal, and the effectiveness of marketing and membership initiatives.
- Define and track key metrics for membership growth, retention, and engagement.
- Provide transparent, actionable updates to the senior leadership, team leaders, and councils on membership and engagement performance.

- Must be articulate and diplomatic as a goodwill ambassador for DMEC and its sponsors, members, volunteers, and consultants.
- Must have demonstrated problem-solving skills.
- Must have strong analytical skills and be able to track results, cross-tabulate various data sources, review data from different angles, and make improvement suggestions.
- Must be an ambitious, life-long learner who strives for continuous improvement and advancement.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, communications, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- At least 10 years of experience in membership, marketing, and/or communications.
- 4+ years management level experience, including leading and coaching staff, developing and managing budgets, and setting goals consistent with strategic initiatives.
- Intermediate or higher proficiency in Microsoft Office, data analytics software, and CRM systems(such as Salesforce or other similar platform) with expert level understanding of association management software systems. Prior experience with Salesforce, Nimble AMS, and Marketing Cloud Engagement (Pardot) strongly preferred.
- Strong experience in project management and leading cross-departmental teams,with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of marketing principles, digital/social media strategies, and membership acquisition/retention techniques.
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing comprehensive marketing plans and campaigns that increase membership growth and brand visibility.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capability to gather and interpret data, analyze trends, and make strategic recommendations.
- Strong writing, editing, and presentation skills.
- Strong leadership skills, with experience managing and developing teams.

Work Environment:
- This is a remote position. A quiet home office is required.
- Travel one to three times per year for conferences and events may be required.
Salary & Benefits:
- Base salary range: $80,067 – $108,327 annually
This is a summary of the current basic employment benefits. Individual benefit programs may be amended or deleted at management’s sole discretion at any time. An employee handbook will be provided to you for more complete benefit information about DMEC’s benefit plans upon hire.
Employees are eligible on the date of hire for the following benefits:
- 40 hours of paid sick leave per calendar year, unless a greater amount is required under state of local law
- 4.62 vacation hours accrued per pay period (3 weeks per year)
- 40 hours of bereavement leave
- 401K retirement plan with 100% company match up to 4% of salary

- Eight (8) holidays, plus your birthday (floating holiday); in addition, the DMEC office is closed for two days following each in-person conference (2 conferences per year), and Christmas Eve through New Year’s Day each year (employees will be paid for any workdays that fall during that period)

Equipment
DMEC will provide the necessary computer equipment (laptop and printer) for the employee’s home office as well as a monthly technology stipend of $100.
