Job summary

L3Harris Technologies is hiring a Director of Mechanical Engineering (Segment Strategy Lead) to drive cross‑sector discipline excellence across SMS. This leader will partner with sectors to deliver today’s commitments and shape tomorrow’s mechanical engineering discipline, owning the AI strategy and roadmap and collaborating with the AI Transformation team.

The role requires a strategic thinker with deep mechanical engineering expertise, hands‑on capability when needed, and the ability to coach

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 15+ years of experience, or a Graduate Degree with 13+ years.
• Active Secret Clearance is required.
• Experience leading large mechanical engineering teams across multiple programs or sectors.
• Experience shaping engineering strategy, workforce development, and performance management.
• Experience leading large DoD proposals with significant mechanical content.

Responsibilities

• Lead segment-wide discipline initiatives and support urgent technical needs across sectors.
• Coordinate cross-sector mechanical engineering resource sharing and standardization.
• Establish Cross-Sector Communities of Practice to accelerate talent development.
• Identify and drive adoption of tools, infrastructure, and processes to improve productivity.
• Own the AI strategy and discipline roadmap for mechanical engineering.
• Partner with AI Workforce Readiness to tailor training to engineers.
• Mentor and develop discipline talent and foster technical excellence.
• Advise sector leadership on mechanical engineering strategy and standards.
• Occasional travel to various L3Harris locations (roughly 10–20%).
