The American Medical Association in Washington, DC offers an exempt Attorney, Director I role on the Government Affairs team. This hybrid position requires three days in the office and focuses on legislative and regulatory advocacy for Medicare Advantage and physician payment issues.

Candidate should have a J.D. degree, 10+ years in health law, and strong writing, communication, and leadership skills. Competitive salary and benefits provided.

Formación

• J.D. degree and active membership in good standing in at least one state Bar required.
• 10+ years professional experience and 3+ years health law experience required; previous legislative, federal agency, or association experience is highly preferred.
• Subject matter expertise of complex U.S. Congressional, legislative, and/or federal regulatory process required.
• Demonstrated strategic judgment and ability to independently lead complex, cross-functional advocacy initiatives.
• Proven experience with physician-related issues in a wide variety of health law subjects such as Medicare physician payment and Medicare Advantage.
• Extensive knowledge of AMA's and Federation's policy development processes highly preferred.
• Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills required.
• Strong verbal communication and presentation skills.
• Strong writing and editing skills to compose and edit polished advocacy documents to meet deadlines.
• Strong project leadership and organizational skills to coordinate cross-functional activity.

Responsabilidades

• Provides legal, legislative, and regulatory advice to AMA Advocacy units and other AMA business units on complex issues including Medicare Advantage and physician payment.
• Advances AMA's agenda by identifying and analyzing federal legislation and regulations and developing policy and advocacy approaches.
• Prepares AMA positions, responses to proposed regulations, and formal comments.
• Represents AMA to external groups and participates in coalition meetings to advocate policy goals.
• Prepares testimony, talking points, and persuasive documents for Congressional, Administrative, and grassroots operations.
• Leads a portfolio of issues and coordinates work across Advocacy and other units.
• Mentors junior attorneys as needed.
