Job summary

GridStor, based in Portland, OR, seeks a Director of Large Load Interconnection to lead the technical strategy and execution for utility interconnections across North America, focusing on data centers and energy infrastructure.

You will own Front-of-the-Meter (FTM) and Behind-the-Meter (BTM) interconnections, coordinate with ISOs/RTOs, utilities, and vendors, and drive EMT modeling, PSCAD studies, and system performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years in transmission planning, large load interconnection, or power systems engineering.
• Experience supporting hyperscale data center or large load interconnections.
• Strong understanding of utility transmission systems, substations, and interconnection processes.
• Experience with PJM, ERCOT or CAISO preferred.
• Proficiency with PSCAD, PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP‑RV, PowerFactory, ETAP or similar tools.
• Experience evaluating BESS, hybrid generation, renewable integration, or co‑located energy systems.
• Strong project management, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead large load interconnection strategy across major markets and territories.
• Manage lifecycle of FTM and BTM interconnection processes, including studies and agreements.
• Develop technical solutions for BESS, hybrid generation, renewables and data center projects.
• Interface with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, transmission owners, consultants and manufacturers.
• Evaluate data center power architectures and redundancy strategies.
• Lead or review transmission planning, power flow, stability, EMT, short circuit and grid studies.
• Support modeling tools (PSCAD, PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP‑RV) for interconnection work.
• Coordinate HIL testing and model validation with OEMs and EPCs.
• Identify risks, constraints, and mitigation strategies; monitor regulatory changes.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to teams and consultants.
