Responsibilities

• Coordinates daily work activities; organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; monitors progress and inspects completed tasks.
• Ensures adherence to safety procedures; monitors work environment and safety equipment to protect employees, juveniles and others; initiates corrective actions as needed.
• Coordinates department activities with other departments, court officials, law enforcement, outside agencies, or others as needed.
• Plans and directs Juvenile Detention Department operations including security, staff management and administrative functions; schedules work and ensures adequate coverage; coordinates training; reviews incident reports and logs; maintains records.
• Develops and maintains systems to evaluate the performance of department units.
• Prepares and supervises departmental budget.
• Meets with juveniles and parents to review detention guidelines; monitors progress toward court orders; provides crisis intervention as necessary.
• Ensures safety and security of juveniles in Detention Center; monitors detention operations and staff; oversees monitoring of juveniles on psychotropic medication and those at risk; prevents escapes.
