Job summary

Middlebury College in Vermont seeks a Director for the Japanese Language School who will provide academic and administrative leadership for a rigorous, immersive summer program. The Director may teach one course on campus and, during the academic year, plans curricula, hires faculty and staff, recruits students, and oversees admissions from a remote location.

The appointment is initially three years, renewable upon satisfactory performance, with a strong emphasis on the Language Pledge,

Qualifications

• Senior faculty rank with tenure or tenure-track credentials
• Native or near-native proficiency in Japanese and strong English communication skills
• Experience with second-language pedagogy and instructional technology

Responsibilities

• Oversee the summer program in residence on campus, with possible teaching of one course
• During the year, plan curriculum, hire faculty and summer staff, evaluate and publicize the program, assist with student recruitment and oversee admissions
