Job summary

State of South Carolina, Department of Corrections, seeks an Executive Director to provide leadership and oversight of Central Classification and Inmate Records, ensuring accurate inmate classification, housing assignments, transfers, records, sentence calculations, and reception and evaluation.

The role directs statewide processes, ensures compliance with laws and policies, coordinates with courts and correctional institutions, and leads staff through policy development and performance

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree and relevant program management experience.
• Must possess demonstrated knowledge of correctional classification systems, inmate housing and custody assignments, sentence administration, reentry programs, applicable laws and regulations, and the development and implementation of policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provides executive-level leadership and oversight of the Agency’s Central Classification and Inmate Records functions, ensuring the effective administration of inmate classification, housing assignments, transfers, records, sentence calculations, reception and evaluation, and related correctional programs.
• Directs statewide classification and restrictive housing processes; oversees Central Reception and Evaluation Centers; ensures compliance with applicable Agency policies, state and federal laws, standards, and court requirements; and coordinates with courts, legal officials, correctional institutions, and other stakeholders regarding inmate custody and records matters.
• Provides strategic direction and supervision to classification and records personnel, develops and implements policies and procedures, oversees staff training and performance, and ensures the timely and accurate delivery of critical inmate management services.
• Participates in agency-wide planning and decision-making on complex correctional and statutory matters and represents the Agency in legal proceedings as required.
• Position requires travel.
