Director, Human Resources - Remote Position

Primary Objective Of Position
Oversees the development and implementation of human resources (HR) functions and activities, individually and in coordination with other HR specialties, including general HR practices, employment policies, benefits administration, compensation administration, HR-related compliance, and HR platforms (integrity/functionality). Ensures and assists in the consistency of HR policy administration, employee relations, supports the administration of benefits, recruitment, training, and other functional areas of human resources. Collaborates with executive and human resources management to support HR-related needs with additional expertise. Provides guidance and support to internal HR specialties, as needed.

Major Duties/Responsibilities
  • Directs, supervises, and collaborates with others in HR to support HR initiatives, organizational structure with analysis of job levels/salary bands/employment classification, overall compensation needs, assists with performance appraisal process/system, employee relations issues, and actions of coaching/promotion/termination. Assists the specialties of benefits management and talent acquisition and other related areas of HR, as needed.
  • Interacts and consults with other senior and executive management regarding the human resources function of the Company.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of HR strategies that result in improving business productivity, efficiencies, and retention.
  • Strategically analyzes HR metrics and prepares recommendations to VP, HR and senior management based on findings.
  • Interprets company policies and procedures to provide counsel to leadership and employees concerning their administration.
  • Develop methods to improve employment policies, processes, and practices, and recommend changes to management.
  • Assists employees/managers in coaching, disciplinary actions, managing employee personal needs impacting job responsibilities; gives consultative advice as appropriate, and provides guidance to employees seeking assistance.
  • Recommends courses of action for hiring needs, corrective action, and terminations.
  • Administers policies and programs to resolve employee grievances.
  • Formulates recommendations on external employment offers, promotion, internal equity, and market adjustments.
  • Analyze compensation policies, government regulations, and prevailing wage rates to develop competitive compensation plan.
  • Partners in the development, implementation, and administration of compensation programs.
  • Provides compensation support/counsel.
  • Partners with senior business leadership to ensure talent management initiatives are aligned to strategic business imperatives.
  • Assists with the performance appraisal process, to understand program and provide support during periods of heavy workload.
  • Partners with benefits function to understand programs and processes, and provide support during periods of heavy workload.
  • Oversees creation of and implementation of engagement initiatives.
  • Understands trends in the marketplace and practices with competitors (as available).
  • Collaborates with VP, HR to create and review employee communications relevant to the human resources function.
  • Collaborates with HR team members to respond to legal/EEOC claims in collaboration with Puma’s Legal function and outside counsel, as necessary.
  • Acts as a back-up resource to other HR functions to provide support to management/employees when a colleague is not working due to PTO, LOA, and special circumstances.
  • Assists Quality Assurance department and HR team with the development of training courses and materials as applicable to the HR function.
  • Assist management to prepare new or update existing job descriptions (including placement in organization structure) to define job levels and families, in partnership with others in HR.
  • This position may have management responsibilities with the HR function.
  • Plan, direct, supervise, and coordinate work activities of subordinates (if applicable), and staff relating to employment, compensation, and employee relations.
Experience And Skills Expected
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR Management, Business Administration, or related discipline.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of HR-related work experience.
  • Must have a strong understanding of federal and California employment laws.
  • Compensation management experience highly preferred.
  • Small to mid-size company experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of PlanSource is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite – Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
  • The ability to demonstrate sound leadership skills, and HR experience in many HR disciplines is required.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, coupled with the ability to coach and influence others.
  • Project management skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, but also willing and able to be a working manager, providing "hands-on" support.
  • Excellent self-awareness, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with strong propensity for action, results, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to motivate and lead.
  • Able to work in a high-energy, fast-paced, rapidly-changing environment.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this position. The physical demands of the position are normally associated with extended amounts of time sitting and using office equipment, including a computer, keyboard, and mouse, which can cause muscle strain. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, and sit. Periodic light lifting of supplies and materials may apply. Work is performed in a remote, home office environment. Occasional travel to Puma facility or company meetings may be required (up to 5%).

Compensation Range

The base compensation range for this position is $200k - $230k per year, higher compensation may be available for someone with advanced skills and/or experience.
