Job summary

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking a Bureau Director to set the vision and direction for 22 boards, optimizing core functions and leveraging the Bureau’s authority to influence public health policy and workforce development.

The role requires strong change leadership, extensive regulatory acumen, and proven ability to engage diverse stakeholders including board members, staff, licensees and the public. This senior position reports to executive leadership within DPH.

Qualifications

• Seven years of full-time or equivalent experience in business administration, public administration or clinical management.
• At least three years in a managerial capacity.
• Salary placement is determined by internal compensation guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Set the vision for the Bureau of Health Professions Licensure and its 22 boards over the next five years.
• Lead cross-board change management and build shared standards across boards.
• Design how boards collaborate, including meetings, surface good practices, and resolve disagreements.
• Use health workforce data and stakeholder engagement to shape policy priorities and legislative direction.
• Oversee recruitment, appointment, and engagement of board members.
