Job summary

Rachio is seeking a Director of Product Hardware to own the devices roadmap, the PDP, and the hardware portfolio — smart sprinkler controllers, hose timers, outdoor lighting, and OEM collaborations — plus the tethered app experiences that make them work.

You will partner daily with Engineering, Supply Chain, Design, Support, Finance, and Sales to define problems, write working backwards documents, and drive the PDP gates from concept through EVT, DVT, PVT, to production.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of technical experience in product management, product marketing, program management, or engineering, with significant hardware end-to-end ownership.
• 5+ years of full-lifecycle consumer hardware/devices product management as lead PM (concept to lifecycle).
• 3+ years of professional experience with mobile apps and/or connected consumer devices.
• Hands-on contributor who writes working backwards docs, builds requirements, runs PDP gates, and participates in reviews.
• Experience contributing to engineering discussions on technology strategy, including hardware trade-offs, with practical analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Own hardware roadmap and strategy with data: customer research, telemetry, returns data, and market trends.
• Write working backwards documents and convert into detailed requirements for hardware, firmware, and tethered app experience.
• Run the hardware PDP with stage gates from concept to ramp, with clear owners and exit criteria.
• Coordinate with Supply Chain on cost targets, tooling, certification, and launch readiness.
• Drive GTM collaboration with Product Marketing on positioning, packaging, and channel enablement.
• Own post-launch feedback loop to identify issues and inform next hardware revision.
