The Director, Global Medical Publications will support Otsuka in leading and developing an overall scientific communication strategy for publications and congresses, working closely with the Global Medical Affairs Teams, Clinical Teams, Global Value & Real-World Evidence Teams, and Publications Management Specialists to plan and execute publication activities.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Strategic Publication Planning Group (SPPG) meetings for assigned compounds to compile cross-functional insights for scientific communication platforms (SCPs), lexicons, and global publication plans.
- Oversee the management of Scientific Communication Platforms and Lexicons for assigned compounds to ensure they are current.
- Collaborate with publication planning teams and the Publication Working Groups (PWGs) to develop and execute global publication plans.
- Drive global communication strategies with medical affairs and clinical teams, ensuring regional and local strategy alignment.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external authors through ongoing publication activities, including congress presentation reviews and external publication steering committee meetings.
- Provide updates to cross-functional teams on publication activities, delegating as appropriate.
- Facilitate the development of congress presentations with external authors, including slide reviews and enhanced publication content.
- Support medical, regional, and global teams in engaging with the medical community.
- Assist in digital and patient-centric communications, including social media content, digital data dissemination platforms, plain language summaries, and newsletters.
- Collaborate on content development for educational sites and strategic planning for global medical congresses.
- Lead internal communications regarding congress coverage and reporting.
- Manage publication vendors, budgets, and operational activities with Publications Management Team.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years in healthcare/pharmaceutical sector with 5+ years in Medical Affairs or Scientific Publications.
- Master's degree in Science required; PhD or PharmD preferred.
- 3+ years in leadership, managing a team.
- Experience in CNS, Nephrology, or Rare Diseases is a plus.
- Proven ability to develop scientific content and communicate effectively to diverse audiences.
- Strong organizational and vendor management skills.
- Ability to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.
Educational Qualifications
- Advanced degree in scientific/healthcare field (PharmD, PhD, MS).
- ISMPP CMPP designation preferred.

Salary range: $183,335 - $274,160 plus incentives, based on experience and skills.
