Job summary

Vir Biotechnology, Inc. is seeking a Director, Clinical Transactional Counsel to lead drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and executing clinical agreements for global development programs.

This hands-on role partners with Clinical Operations, Procurement, Finance, and Legal to drive efficient study startup and execution while managing risk. The position is based at our San Francisco headquarters with an expectation of three days per week in the office.

Qualifications

• JD and 10+ years in pharma/biotech or life sciences, with significant clinical contracting experience.
• Independent drafting, reviewing, and negotiation of high-volume clinical trial and vendor agreements.
• Experience supporting global development programs across multiple countries and regions.
• Strong understanding of clinical research regulations and contracting requirements by country.
• Ability to balance legal risk with business needs and provide practical guidance.
• Experience collaborating with Clinical Operations, Development, Legal, Procurement, and Finance stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Negotiate clinical study agreements, confidentiality agreements, amendments, and related documents.
• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage vendor contracts including master service agreements and statements of work.
• Own end-to-end contracting process for global multi-site trials to support milestones.
• Serve as primary contracting partner to cross-functional teams.
• Provide risk-based guidance and resolve negotiation escalations.
• Improve templates, playbooks, and standard language with evolving regulations.
• Identify contracting risks with stakeholders and ensure terms support operations.
• Oversee external site contracting and budget vendor governance and KPI reviews.
• Monitor regulatory changes and update contracting processes accordingly.
• Drive efficiency, consistency, and scalability across Vir's global portfolio.
