Job summary

Xcimer Energy seeks a Director of Integrated Target Design to lead an interdisciplinary team optimizing target physics for our laser architecture. You will translate priorities into actionable plans and guide simulations and experiments while mentoring staff.

Based in Denver, CO, this role offers visibility across ICF disciplines, collaboration with national labs, and a path to advance fusion research toward practical energy production. A Ph.D. and leadership experience are required.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Physics or Engineering or related field with ICF knowledge.
• Proven ability to lead scientific or technical teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication in a matrix organization.
• Ability to manage execution in a fast-moving, interdisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

• Build, grow, and lead the Integrated Target Design group, including recruiting and mentoring staff.
• Translate program priorities into detailed work scopes, schedules, and tasks.
• Ensure staffing, toolchain development, and resource planning align with goals.
• Collaborate across laser engineering, target fabrication, and diagnostics.
• Provide day-to-day technical guidance on implosion physics and energy coupling.
• Review outputs for technical quality and coordinate with national labs and vendors.
