Xcimer Energy is seeking a Principal Electro-Optical/Adaptive Optics Engineer to lead the adaptive optics and wavefront control for a directed-energy laser demonstrator. You will own requirements, performance budgets, and interfaces with partners, bridging Directed Energy and fusion beam control efforts.

You will mentor the new Adaptive Optics group, help set technical standards, and drive development that advances both national security and fusion programs.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in optics, physics, electrical engineering, or closely related field.
• 8+ years of optical science/engineering experience, including 5+ years in adaptive optics, wavefront sensing and control, directed energy, or related high-speed optical/laser control systems.
• Track record delivering adaptive optics or beam control systems in industry, national labs, or observatories.
• Ownership of adaptive optics requirements and performance budgets on a real program, including wavefront error budget allocation.
• Experience with laser beam propagation through atmospheric turbulence and thermal blooming.

Responsabilités

• Own adaptive optics and wavefront control requirements for the Directed Energy program, from top-level objectives to component specifications.
• Build and maintain end-to-end performance models for beam propagation, turbulence, and wavefront error budgets.
• Set requirements on deformable mirrors, wavefront sensors, and real-time control loops; review designs against them.
• Lead trade studies and architecture decisions for correction topology, actuator count, sensing, and control rates.
• Define proof-of-concept experiments and lead laboratory/in-situ tests to validate performance and closed-loop operation.
• Mentor engineers and scientists, establish technical standards and workflows, and participate in hiring for the adaptive optics group.
