Job description

Our Mission

Our mission is to SAVE AND IMPROVE LIVES BY EMPOWERING HEALTHCARE CONSUMERS. Come be part of something remarkable.

Overview

How you can make a difference

We are seeking a strategic, hands-on leader to build and operate HealthEquity’s Fraud Analytics & Security Intelligence function — our frontline defense against evolving fraud and cybercrime. In this role, you will build and mentor a high-performing team of data scientists, data engineers, and analysts. You will integrate transactional, identity, and cybersecurity telemetry data into a unified analytics platform, and lead the design and deployment of advanced AI/ML and graph-based models to proactively prevent losses and accelerate fraud investigations. As the data-driven voice of fraud and security intelligence, you will collaborate closely with our Fraud Operations team and law enforcement agencies on coordinated takedowns of sophisticated fraud rings. You will also work with Fraud and Security Engineering teams to develop real-time containment rules, integrated into our transaction gateways and other cyber and identity defenses to prevent high-risk activity at scale. Your strategic roadmap will include Generative AI and RAG assistants for alert triage and case summarization, network-analytics pipelines for ring detection, and continuous model improvement to balance fraud reduction with a seamless member experience.

What you’ll be doing
  1. Team Leadership & Collaboration: Recruit, mentor, and grow a high-impact data science and analytics team focused on fraud-ring detection, card and non-card fraud modeling, and identity intelligence.
  2. Preventative Modeling: Build and operationalize AI/ML models to detect core fraud vectors (e.g., credential compromise, card fraud) and emerging threats (e.g., scams, account hijacks, deepfakes).
  3. Technology & Tools: Evaluate and implement cutting-edge fraud prevention technologies, machine learning models, and identity management systems to enhance operational efficiency.
  4. Graph & Network Analytics: Operationalize graph-analysis pipelines to uncover fraud rings and synthetic identity clusters, surface network metrics (centrality, community detection) for targeted investigations.
  5. GenAI-driven Investigations: Lead development of LLM/RAG/Agentic AI capabilities for cybersecurity and fraud functions, including auto-summaries, narrative generation, and root-cause explainers to reduce detection and remediation times.
  6. Real-time Containment (Partner): Collaborate with product, engineering, SOC, and fraud operations to deploy detection rules and strategies across transaction flows and cyber/identity defenses for immediate threat mitigation.
  7. Threat Intelligence & Takedowns: Ingest external threat feeds and collaborate with Fraud Investigations, Legal, FBI, and Secret Service on evidence gathering and coordinated takedowns.
  8. Strategic Roadmap: Define a multi-year plan for expanding graph analytics, Generative AI assistants, and autonomous response agents; lead pilots and A/B tests to optimize fraud defenses and controls.
  9. Identity Verification: Oversee development and optimization of identity authentication and verification processes to ensure secure, seamless customer experiences.
  10. Governance & Compliance: Ensure all fraud prevention and identity practices comply with relevant regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, AML) and industry standards.
What you will need to be successful
  • Bachelor's degree in data science, Statistics, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 10+ years in fraud prevention analytics or security intelligence; 5+ years managing technical teams.
  • Proven expertise in statistical modeling & machine learning (Python, R, PyTorch, Spark).
  • Hands-on experience with data engineering (SQL, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Data Lake).
  • Familiarity with security telemetry platforms (Azure Sentinel, Cribl LogStream) and automated response frameworks.
  • Experience integrating external threat intelligence feeds into detection systems.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with a track record of building high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication skills to translate complex data into actionable insights for executives.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards in fraud and identity management.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities.
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in data science, Statistics, or Computer Science.
  • Experience with AI/ML, Generative AI (LLM/RAG/Agentic AI) in security or fraud use cases.
  • Background in fintech, payments, or benefits administration.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud analytics platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).
