Job summary

Primary Purpose Of Organizational Unit

UNC School of Law of Law Office of Advancement’s purpose is to support the mission of the School by raising private resources to enhance financial support for students, faculty, programs, and facilities and to engage new alumni and friends to bolster our donor pipeline. The Office of Advancement provides leadership and services to all areas of the law school, serving as a focal point for annual giving, application development and IT support; campaign management; constituent programs; donor development, corporation and foundation grants, donor relations; gift planning; advancement services industry relations; marketing/communications; principal gifts; prospect management, research and analytics; regional strategy; scholarships and student aid; law school events; and volunteer engagement.

Position Summary

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

Under the direct supervision of the Associate Dean for Advancement, the Director for Campaign Strategy and Donor Development helps support the goals of the University and School of Law through the School’s strategic outreach and involvement annual and capital campaigns, volunteer leadership who engage and contribute to the School, and identifying and developing relationships with alumni and friends of Carolina Law in North Carolina and across the country. This role blends strategic vision, donor development, volunteer engagement and board management to support several key boards at the Law School. Additionally, this role manages a portfolio of volunteers and seeks to continue their journey with the Law School by encouraging meaningful and impactful giving, and managing and providing strategic guidance for prospect development with all frontline fundraisers.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience

Demonstrated ability to manage volunteers or boards. Must be self-motivated, proactive, innovative, and extremely organized with great attention to detail. Given the multiple boards and volunteers this person will both interact with and engage, ability to multitask and prioritize a great number of tasks/projects each day often in a fast-paced environment interacting with a wide range of people is critical. This individual must have excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication (both verbal and written) skills. Ability to interact with key stakeholders, top donors and maintain diplomacy. This individual must be able to work relatively independently on many projects. This position demands excellent computer skills, with proficiency in Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint/Canva/equivalent, administrative skills, and willingness to stay on top of the latest upgrades. Must have a valid driver’s license. Ability to travel and work some evenings and weekends.
