Overview

Responsible for direction and management of facilities to ensure the buildings, grounds, and facility equipment are maintained in optimum operating condition to create a safe, comfortable, clean, attractive, healing environment for patient care. Directing and overseeing the development, design, and implementation of thorough preventive maintenance programs. Provides sound and professional advice to the CCEO’s, System Construction leadership, architects, and construction firms on current and proposed construction projects and major equipment purchases. Hires, supervises, and trains maintenance personnel and other staff under the scope of responsibility. Designs staffing plans and manages personnel to achieve optimal performance. Oversees activities necessary to meet facility regulatory requirements and ensures required documentation is complete.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage departmental capital and operational budgets.
  • Direct activities that include analysis, inspection, construction, and maintenance of facilities.
  • Ensure facility environments are maintained in accordance with environment‑of‑care standards set by State and Federal codes and regulations, such as CMS Regulation, State facility code and licensure requirement, FGI (AIA) Guidelines, NFPA, and ASHRAE guidelines.
  • Oversee maintenance of environment‑of‑care services for all facilities within scope of control.
  • Provide direction to facility management and, if assigned, environmental service managers.
  • Identify environment‑of‑care issues in collaboration with other facility leaders and develop and implement resolutions.
  • Report proposals for construction projects requiring State permitting to the ARH System leader responsible for Design/Construction.
  • Ensure newly constructed and existing environments of care are designed and maintained in compliance with the Life Safety Code, in collaboration with leadership, System Design & Construction, and contractors.
  • Plan, coordinate, complete, and commission contracted capital construction projects with ARH System Design/Construction/Project Management; develop ILS and ICRA Plans in collaboration with Infection Control and monitor compliance.
  • Work with contractors to develop plans, specifications, and cost estimates for minor remodeling or renovation projects not requiring State permitting.
  • Review cost estimates, plans, and specifications before implementing projects to ensure compliance with budget, policy, and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Develop and submit Project Plans, as required by policy, for capital projects in collaboration with Administration.
  • Use the Work Order Management system to schedule, implement, and monitor preventive maintenance schedules, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Assign staff responsibilities for scheduled preventive maintenance work and facility repairs; ensure work is completed correctly and documented in the work order system.
  • Collaborate with leadership to increase energy efficiency and reduce energy costs.
  • Review specifications of major equipment with purchasing, Administration, System Design & Construction, or other Directors of Facility Management, and recommend purchase and installation.
  • Inspect and evaluate the appearance and aesthetics of facilities and campuses; initiate corrective actions to maintain clean, attractive environments.
  • Travel between ARH facilities as requested by CCEO’s and System leaders.
  • Establish and manage staffing and productivity for areas of responsibility.
  • Procure necessary tools and materials for maintaining facilities in accordance with ARH Purchasing Policy and Procedure.
Qualifications
  • Preferred: Degree in engineering, industrial management, construction management, or facility management.
  • Two‑year college or technical school graduate with focus on a specific facility trade or similar industrial/healthcare management field.
  • Five (5) years of experience in a healthcare facility management setting, related regulatory agency, or as an industrial trade contractor.
  • Basic computer skills.
