Job summary

Sanders Unified School District is seeking an Exceptional Student Services Director to lead and oversee district-wide special education programs from admission to dismissal, including eligibility, evaluations, and due process. The role requires a Master’s degree, SPED/Administrative certification, and strong collaboration with the Superintendent of Schools.

Responsibilities include curriculum planning, grant management, budget oversight, and supervision of SPED staff.

Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Valid SPED Teacher Certification and Supervisory/Administrative Certificate.
• IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Good computer operating skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Familiarity with Navajo tradition and culture (preferred).
• Experience working with Native American students.
• Experience developing, documenting and evaluating educational programs.
• Preferably bilingual, Navajo/English.

Responsibilities

• Establishes procedures to process and place eligible pupils in special education classes from admission to dismissal.
• Implements curriculum and program planning, and provides pre-service and in-service training for special education teachers.
• Writes and monitors grants and financial aid for special education.
• Develops budget recommendations and controls expenditures for special education.
• Directs the implementation of programs for special education and gifted students, including 504 plans.
• Assists in recruiting, selecting, and evaluating special education personnel.
• Maintains records, attendance reports, and data for reimbursement and tuition.
• Interprets objectives and programs to the Governing Board and staff.
• Maintains inventory and approves supplies for special education.
• Supervises all disability-related classroom programs and coordinates services with neighboring schools.
• Assists in evaluation of special education teachers and prepares periodic reports.

Education

Master's Degree

SPED/ Supervisory/ Administrative Certificate

Computer operating skills

Excellent communication skills

Knowledge of Navajo tradition and culture (Preferred)

Experience with Native American students
