Job summary

Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA seeks a seasoned Director of Equity and Title IX to lead the Equity Team and serve as the institutional Title IX Coordinator. This role combines policy leadership, investigations, and preventive education to foster a safe, inclusive campus for our global community of artists and scholars.

Reporting to the Chief Equity Officer, the director guides compliance with federal and state laws, manages complex grievances, and partners across divisions to deliver

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree highly desired.
• 8–10 years of progressive experience in higher education, civil rights, student affairs, or equity compliance.
• Proven leadership supervising professional staff and managing complex investigations.
• Expert knowledge of federal compliance frameworks (Title IX, VAWA) and data-informed decision making.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the institutional Equity and Title IX system, ensuring compliance with Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, VAWA and related laws.
• Directly supervise the Equity and Title IX Team and provide strategic leadership.
• Collaborate with the Chief Equity Officer and the Director of Community Standards and Conflict Resolution to align efforts across functions.
• Track climate survey data and incident reports; author semesterly analytical reports to inform prevention efforts.
• Coordinate investigations of discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct; ensure trauma-informed practices.
• Provide on-call support during high-volume periods; conduct intake meetings and facilitate appeals.
• Develop and deliver multimedia educational outreach, training materials, and workshops detailing rights and resources.
