Job summary

Heelstone Renewable Energy, LLC in Durham, NC seeks a Director of Procurement to lead and build the procurement function for utility-scale solar and storage projects. This full-time role owns supplier strategy, negotiates major contracts, and partners with Finance to manage budgets and KPIs across the project portfolio.

The position requires 10+ years in procurement with 5+ years in leadership, and a deep understanding of the North American power market, tariffs, and domestic content

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, engineering, business, or supply chain.
• 10+ years in procurement, supply chain, or related roles, including at least 5 years in a leadership role managing teams.
• Experience procuring equipment and services for utility-scale solar, BESS, or other power generation or infrastructure projects.
• Proven track record negotiating large, complex supply agreements and managing strategic supplier relationships.
• Strong understanding of the North American power market, including trade, tariff, and domestic content considerations.
• Demonstrated ability to build processes and lead a function across multiple projects in a growing organization.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a procurement strategy that supports Heelstone’s growth plans, project pipeline, and financial objectives.
• Build, lead, and develop the procurement team, including hiring, setting goals, managing performance, and growing team capabilities.
• Establish and maintain procurement policies, procedures, standards, and controls, ensuring consistent execution and alignment with corporate EPC standards.
• Own strategic relationships with key suppliers, manufacturers, and contractors, and develop new sources of supply to reduce risk and improve cost and delivery performance.
• Lead negotiation of MSAs (Master Supply Agreements), framework agreements, and other high-value contracts for major equipment and EPC/BOP services.
• Oversee the competitive bid process across the portfolio, including sourcing strategy, evaluation criteria, contract award recommendations, and supplier performance management.
• Direct the preparation of contract documents, including specifications, general and special conditions, in partnership with Legal, Development, Engineering, and Operations.
• Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, including tariff, trade, domestic content, logistics, and supplier financial risk, and develop contingency plans.
• Analyze market trends and government/regulatory conditions and present procurement strategy recommendations to executive leadership.
• Partner with Finance on procurement budgets, cost forecasting, and savings targets; establish and report on procurement KPIs.
• Serve as the procurement lead on project acquisitions and due diligence, advising on procurement, construction, and operations strategy and costs.
• Resolve escalated supplier, cost, and schedule issues across multiple concurrent projects; communicate with stakeholders.
