Job summary

Johnson & Johnson in the United States seeks a Director of Enterprise Strategic Response to lead the company’s positioning on national issues, defend reputation, and shape crisis communications.

You will guide senior leaders, coordinate with media relations, government affairs, and law departments; develop plans translating policy priorities into clear external messaging across media and stakeholders; and lead a team of communications professionals while managing agencies.

Qualifications

• 10–12 years of issues, litigation, and/or policy communications experience.
• Proven excellence counseling senior management on complex business issues.
• Ability to delegate, prioritize, and focus on critical issues.
• Strategic, analytical, discreet; strong judgment.
• Strong writer and critical thinker; excellent interpersonal/executive presence.
• Effective coach/people leader; high accountability; flexible availability in fast-paced news environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead, oversee, and set strategy for J&J’s positioning and messaging to defend the Company’s reputation in the U.S.
• Serve as point person for issues management; collaborate with media relations, government affairs, and law departments; coordinate with internal sectors, external advisors, and communication leaders.
• Advance J&J policy priorities through external communications; develop plans and coordinate actions so positions are understood by media and stakeholders.
• Prepare external communications strategies for issues, policy, and government inquiries.
• Lead development/production of communications materials (statements, talking points, press releases, digital content) and provide tactical leadership for issues-related coverage.
• Guide communicators in businesses on responsible and appropriate issue management.
• Define media relations analytics/reporting to track coverage and inform strategy.
• Lead a team of communications professionals and manage third-party agency relationships.
