Blue Origin is seeking a Director of Software Engineering for Blue Ring Flight Software in Denver. You will lead multi-team efforts delivering embedded flight software that enables safe, reliable spacecraft operation on orbit and beyond.

The role involves defining requirements, architectures, and roadmaps with cross-functional partners. You will mentor engineering managers, drive V&V practices, manage staffing and budgets, and ensure technical excellence and timely delivery across

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
• 12+ years of software engineering experience including embedded/real-time or mission-critical systems (e.g., C/C++).
• 5+ years leading software engineering teams, including engineering managers or leads.
• Experience owning software architecture, technical strategy, and delivery for complex embedded systems.
• Experience with software verification and validation practices, including requirements traceability, testing, and qualification processes.
• Proven ability to manage cross-functional programs, balance priorities, and deliver on schedule and budget.
• Strong communication skills with senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead, hire, and develop multiple flight software teams and engineering managers.
• Own technical strategy, architecture direction, and delivery roadmap for Blue Ring software.
• Partner with Systems Engineering, Avionics, GNC, and Mission Operations to define requirements and interfaces.
• Establish rigorous real-time embedded software development, verification, and validation practices.
• Drive improvements in software quality, reliability, and development velocity across the organization.
• Set clear goals for managers and ensure accountability to schedule and quality.
