Job summary

FMI – The Food Industry Association seeks a Director of Education Program Development & eLearning to lead the design, delivery, and management of education programs across in-person, virtual, and online formats. You will collaborate with internal teams and external partners to shape strategy, grow attendance, and measure impact.

The role requires strong program management, e-learning expertise, and the ability to align offerings with member needs, industry trends, and organizational goals.

Qualifications

• Minimum of seven to ten years in meeting planning and program development
• Three years of e-learning program delivery
• Experience in budgeting and vendor contracts
• Knowledge of food/retail industry and business concepts

Responsibilities

• Develop, market, and execute educational programs, conferences, webinars, and online learning initiatives.
• Identify industry trends to create innovative learning experiences.
• Lead all aspects of program and event planning, including budgets, timelines, audience development, and success metrics.
• Serve as project manager and liaison across marketing, finance, meetings, logistics, and operations.
• Recruit and collaborate with subject matter experts, speakers, and partner organizations.
• Identify sponsorship opportunities and negotiate contracts.
• Monitor program performance and attendee feedback for improvement.
• Oversee FMI’s LMS and adoption of new edtech solutions.

Quick Snapshot:

In this role, you will develop, market, and deliver innovative education programs across in-person, virtual, and online formats. Work with internal and external stakeholders to lead program design, implementation, and evaluation while managing budgets, financial performance, and educational technology initiatives. As FMI's e-learning expert, you will also drive continuous improvement through data-driven program assessment and the adoption of innovative learning solutions.

What You’ll Do in This Role:

• Develop, market, and execute educational programs, conferences, webinars, and online learning initiatives that align with FMI's strategic goals and member needs.
• Identify industry trends and emerging topics to create innovative and relevant learning experiences.
• Lead all aspects of program and event planning, including goal setting, budgeting, timelines, audience development, and success measurement.
• Serve as project manager and primary liaison across internal teams, including marketing, finance, meetings, logistics, and event operations.
• Recruit, manage, and collaborate with member planning committees, subject matter experts, speakers, and partner organizations to develop high-quality educational content.
• Identify sponsorship opportunities, cultivate sponsor relationships, and negotiate speaker and vendor contracts.
• Monitor program performance, financial results, and attendee feedback to ensure program success and continuous improvement.
• Serve as FMI's education technology and e-learning expert, providing guidance on learning technologies, best practices, and digital learning strategies.
• Manage FMI's Learning Management System and support the implementation of new educational technologies and online learning solutions.

Education and Skills You’ll Need to Be Successful:

• Minimum of seven to ten years of prior work experience in a similar role specifically in meeting planning and program development with demonstrated skills in project management. College degree in education, business, or a related field.
• At least three years of e-learning program delivery. A certificate in e-learning design and delivery is a plus.
• Knowledge of the food and/or retail industry and general business concepts.
• Experience managing volunteer committees, including facilitating meetings, setting agendas, and leading collaborative planning efforts.
• Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
• Working knowledge of event and educational technologies, including webinar platforms, online learning tools, live streaming, and mobile applications.
• Understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design, course development, and effective education methodologies.
• Experience recruiting speakers and sponsors, managing budgets, and negotiating vendor and service contracts.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, virtual meeting platforms, and database management systems.
• Strong communication, presentation, customer service, project management, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

This position offers a hybrid work schedule, requiring you to work outside of our Arlington, Virginia office for a minimum of two full days per week. We offer a $175 monthly transportation reimbursement or a parking space underneath our office to offset your commuting costs to and from our office. There are additional opportunities for employees to work fully remote throughout the year, including two weeks at the end of August leading up to Labor Day, the week of Thanksgiving and two weeks at the end of December.
