Job summary

Plotsy in Wisconsin is seeking a Director Editor to oversee the production of episodic scenes for the Plotsy vBook project. You will direct and assemble assigned scenes using Cineversion™ processes, guiding AI models to deliver emotionally resonant performances and consistent visuals.

You will work from scripts and design packages, maintain asset organization, and ensure lipsync, pacing, and scene continuity across 20+ shots per scene, delivering polished, high-volume editorial outputs.

Responsibilities

• Own Assigned Scenes: take creative responsibility for the composition, quality, and narrative impact of every shot within your assigned scenes.
• Direct AI Performance: iterate generation to control character intention, emotional registers, eyelines, and physical behaviors until the narrative beat plays accurately.
• Maintain Visual Consistency: strictly adhere to pre-production design packages to hold character, environment, and lighting continuity across all 20+ shots required per scene.
• Deliver Steady Production Output: meet a demanding and sustained daily throughput target of roughly 2 minutes of finished content per day (contributing to a 40–45 minute episode).
• Execute Assembly Cuts: build clean project bins and deliver timed, rhythmic scene assemblies on schedule that the Showrunner and Editor can easily build upon.

At Plotsy, we are pioneering a new way to experience stories through the Plotsy vBook™—a groundbreaking concept that transforms written books into cinematic, episodic videos. As a Director Editor, your mission is to bring stories to life by directing and assembling assigned episodic scenes using our proprietary Cineversion™ process. You will treat generative AI models not as a shortcut, but as a sophisticated creative tool, acting as a true director to extract consistent, emotional, and nuanced character performances out of AI systems. Your ultimate goal is to seamlessly bridge the gap between traditional reading and modern, visual-driven content consumption by delivering a high volume of polished, emotionally resonant assembly cuts.

How You Will Spend Your Time

• 60% Directing & Scene Generation: Working from locked scripts and established design packages to generate full scene coverage (wides, singles, reactions, inserts) while running repetitive \"takes\" to pull precise intentions, reactions, and continuities out of the generative models.
• 30% Assembly Editing & Crafting: Cutting generated shots together in an NLE, establishing pacing and rhythm, syncing dialogue and lipsync, and using clever editorial techniques (masks, reframes, digital zooms) to eliminate AI artifacts and hide seams.
• 10% Collaboration & Workflow Optimization: Receiving and executing notes from the Showrunner, maintaining strict asset organization, and feeding prompt/workflow learnings back to the Principal AI Production Engineer.

What You Must Bring

• Directorial Eye: Deep, articulate understanding of cinematography, framing, blocking, lens choices, and composition.
• Real Editing Ability: High proficiency in a major professional NLE (Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or Avid); basic competency is not enough.
• Generative Fluency: Strong hands-on experience with AI image and video platforms (e.g., Midjourney, Nano Banana, Kling, Google Veo, Runway) including reference conditioning, seed management, and lipsync workflows.
• Performance Instinct: A sharp intuitive sense for when an on-screen performance feels false, paired with the creative vocabulary to direct it until it feels true.
• Iterative Temperament & Resilience: The patience required to run a single beat thirty times to fix an emotional nuance, balanced with the professional judgment to know when a shot is complete.
• Artifact Detection & FX Literacy: An acute eye for visual AI flaws and the post-production/CG literacy to fix them through masking, regeneration, or editorial sleight of hand.
