Job summary

Switch is seeking a Director of Design Execution to lead the practical execution, coordination, and field validation of data center designs across its project portfolio. You will guide a team of engineers and third-party resources from post-design handoff through construction, commissioning, turnover, and operational readiness, establishing governance and continuous improvement across regions.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive engineering experience in data centers or mission-critical facilities.
• 5+ years leading engineering teams in technical environments.
• 4+ years of project management for data center projects and infra upgrades.
• Deep understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in mission-critical environments.
• Experience with construction, commissioning, turnover, and ops readiness.
• Experience reading construction drawings and MEP documentation.
• Experience with EPMS, SCADA, or BMS monitoring systems.
• Strong safety knowledge: OSHA, NFPA 70E concepts.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Design Execution team and external partners.
• Set priorities, allocate resources, and coach team members.
• Oversee design handoff through construction, commissioning and turnover.
• Establish governance, escalation, and metrics for post-IFC execution.
• Translate design intent into field-ready execution requirements.
• Resolve field engineering issues and review complex procedures.
• Lead upgrades and retrofits to improve capacity, reliability and efficiency.
• Provide technical leadership across electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and controls infrastructure.
• Review drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and operation sequences.
• Collaborate with Design Engineering, Construction, Commissioning and Operations.
• Manage engineering consultants, vendors, and external resources.
• Maintain consistent standards across projects and campuses.
• Monitor performance metrics and report to senior leadership.
• Support turnover and operations during critical events.
