Job description

Position Summary: The Director, Site Brand Design, will support the Walmart Creative Studio in concept through execution for site merchandising, marketing, and brand campaigns that translate across multiple channels including site, email, paid social, and display ads. Our ideal candidate is a problem solver, conceptual thinker, and able to work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment. They should be organized, detail-oriented, and exhibit outstanding design judgment.

In this role, the Creative Director will oversee Associate Creative Directors, Senior Design Leads, Senior Designers, and Designers—validating and directing their day-to-day work while working alongside the Senior Director, Brand Design to create connections between big picture strategy and daily execution. The Creative Director will evaluate work across all business segments in Walmart’s digital ecosystem and improve team efficiency through new collaboration tools and refining creative processes.

What you'll do
  1. Strategic Leadership: Define and drive the creative vision for site brand design, aligning with overall brand strategy and business objectives.
  2. Team management: Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of designers, providing guidance, feedback, and support to foster creative excellence. Conduct semi-annual or annual performance evaluations to enhance creative output and consider skillsets such as benchmarking, presentation design, creative/strategic alignment, workshopping, public speaking, and critical thinking. Identify new, competitive talent to add to the team.
  3. Collaboration: Work closely with senior leadership, site merchandising, marketing, production, and other stakeholders to implement design systems that achieve broader business goals. Manage team and projects to ensure work is on-brief and polished, mitigating feedback, and keeping workstreams on track. Partner with Creative Account Management and Operations (CAMO) and Production to manage timelines and execute breakthrough creative on schedule and within budget.
  4. Site Brand Cohesion: Ensure a unified and consistent site brand experience across all categories and touchpoints.
  5. Project Oversight: Manage high-profile design projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with strategic objectives.
  6. Trend Awareness: Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging design technologies, including artificial intelligence, and incorporate relevant trends into brand design strategies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in graphic design, brand strategy, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in brand design, with proven leadership and successful project management at a high level.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing design systems for large-scale enterprises.
  • Exceptional portfolio showcasing design solutions across channels, including understanding of responsive/adaptive design.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard design tools and software, including Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Google Slides, and Figma. Bonus if experienced with Cinema 4D, After Effects, and other 3D modeling and motion design software.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a creative team.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, high-stakes environments leading brand design work in-house or at an agency.
