Job summary

Bristol Myers Squibb in Cambridge, MA seeks an experienced, collaborative scientist to lead a computational sciences team that guides antibody design and decision making across oncology, neuroscience, and immunology programs. This hands-on leadership role balances delivering on active projects with building long‑term capabilities.

You will mentor scientists, translate complex analyses into actionable recommendations, and partner with project teams to influence go/no-go decisions from binder

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of academic/industry experience, OR Master's with 10+ years, OR PhD with 8+ years.
  • Preferred advanced degree in computational biology, computational chemistry, bioengineering, biophysics, machine learning, or related field, with experience applying computational methods to biologics, protein engineering, antibody discovery, or therapeutic discovery programs.
  • 4+ years of leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence project decisions through rigorous analysis, scientific judgment, and clear communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize computational effort across competing program needs, capacity constraints, and decision timelines.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and developing scientists with clear expectations and coaching.
  • Experience validating and calibrating computational models against experimental outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a computational sciences portfolio team, setting priorities across multiple biologics programs in BMS’ pre‑clinical pipeline.
  • Apply bioinformatics, machine learning, and AI‑enabled design approaches to improve antibody selection, design, optimization, characterization, and experimental decision‑making.
  • Define when computational predictions are reliable enough to act on, when they should be qualified, and when additional experimental evidence is needed.
  • Partner with project teams to translate scientific questions into computational strategies and clear recommendations from binder discovery through candidate nomination.
  • Communicate hypotheses, methods, results, visualizations, and recommendations in decision‑ready formats tailored to project teams, governance forums, and scientific partners.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop computational scientists while fostering scientific rigor, urgency, accountability, collaboration, and impact.
