Job summary

South Texas Health System is seeking a Cardiopulmonary Director to oversee the cardiopulmonary services, including respiratory therapy, PFT, and cardiac diagnostics. You will supervise staff, manage budgets, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive high-quality patient care.

You will collaborate with the Corporate Director of Respiratory, Facility Administration, and Medical Director to maintain exemplary standards and safety within the department.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Graduate from an accredited Respiratory Care program.
• Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) by the Texas Medical Board; NBRC credential required.
• Current Healthcare Provider BLS; ACLS, PALS and NRP within 90 days of hire and ongoing.

Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY: The Cardiopulmonary Director oversees all cardiopulmonary services, including respiratory therapy, pulmonary function testing, and cardiac diagnostics, ensuring regulatory compliance, staff supervision, budgeting, and high‑quality patient care. Responsible for everyday operations and administrative tasks and financial results over the department, planning, organizing, developing, and directing the day‑to‑day functions in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards as well as guidelines and regulations that govern the community. Creates, manages, and monitors annual departmental budgets, equipment purchases, and productivity goals. Implement programs to boost patient safety, care quality, and efficient workflows. The Director will collaborate with the Corporate Director of Respiratory, Facility Administration, and the Medical Director to ensure the highest degree of quality of care is always maintained for our patients. Oversee compliance of ABG and PFT lab.

Qualifications

• Five or more years critical care Respiratory Therapy experience, with at least 4 years’ management level experience.
• Strong knowledge of cardiopulmonary procedures and equipment.
• Must have the ability to communicate with all levels of healthcare professionals.
• Must have demonstrated good leadership skills with commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program, and Code of Conduct, and Service Excellence.
• Adhere to all policies and procedures. Clinical experience and theoretical/technical competence in all specialized areas serviced by the Cardiopulmonary Department

Education / Licensure

• Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
• Graduate from an accredited Respiratory Care program.
• License Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) by the Texas Medical Board. Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) required.
• Must have current Healthcare providers BLS obtain ACLS, PALS and NRP within 90 days of hire date and current thereafter. Certification must be in accordance with the curriculum of AHA for Healthcare Provider’s Program.
