Job Summary
American Roofing & Metal is seeking a driven, detail-oriented Director, Business Systems & IT to lead the company through a major technology transition and to serve as the go-to resource for the software and hardware our teams rely on every day. This role owns the companywide implementation of BuildOps from planning through go-live, continues to build out and support our Smartsheet-based operations, and manages day-to-day IT needs - from troubleshooting and provisioning to keeping field and office employees equipped and productive.
This is a hands-on, highly visible role that sits at the intersection of business process, technology, and people. The right candidate is equally comfortable leading a companywide software rollout and personally walking a field employee through a laptop or phone issue.
Duties & Responsibilities
BuildOps Implementation & Change Management
- Lead the companywide implementation and transition to BuildOps, from initial configuration through full rollout across all departments and locations
- Develop and manage the implementation plan, timeline, and milestones in coordination with company leadership
- Own data migration, system configuration, and integration planning between BuildOps and existing tools
- Design and deliver training for office and field employees, and build reference materials/SOPs to support long-term adoption
- Serve as the primary point of contact with the BuildOps vendor for implementation support, escalations, and ongoing account management
- Identify and troubleshoot issues that arise during rollout, and drive them to resolution with minimal disruption to operations
- Gather feedback from department leaders and field employees to guide configuration decisions and post-launch improvements
Business Systems & Smartsheet Support
- Serve as company administrator for Smartsheet, supporting and maintaining sheets, reports, dashboards, and automations used across departments (bid log, WIN log, warehouse requests, hiring, submittals, and similar workflows)
- Partner with department leaders to build new Smartsheet solutions that improve reporting and day-to-day workflow
- Train employees on Smartsheet and other business systems, and act as the go-to resource for questions and troubleshooting
- Evaluate existing business systems and recommend improvements, integrations, or replacements as the company grows
IT Support & Device Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for software and hardware issues across all company locations
- Manage provisioning and setup of phones, laptops, and other equipment for new hires, transfers, and replacements
- Maintain an accurate inventory of company hardware, software licenses, and user accounts/access
- Coordinate with outside vendors and managed service providers on network, phone system, and infrastructure issues as needed
- Manage user access and permissions across company software systems, ensuring timely setup and deactivation as staffing changes
Field & Cross-Departmental Support
- Interface directly with field employees to resolve technology issues and ensure devices and software hold up in field conditions
- Provide responsive, professional support to office and field staff in Louisville, Lexington, and Cincinnati
- Travel periodically to the Lexington, KY and Cincinnati, OH locations to provide in-person support and training
- Partner with department leaders companywide to identify systems and workflow improvement opportunities
Required Skills & Abilities
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to lead a companywide software implementation from start to finish
- Working knowledge of Smartsheet or a comparable work management platform; administrator-level experience preferred
- Experience with BuildOps or comparable field service/construction management software strongly preferred
- Solid general IT troubleshooting skills, including hardware, software, basic networking, and mobile device management
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to train and support non-technical users patiently and clearly
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities across several locations
- Comfortable working with employees at every level of the company, from field crews to executive leadership
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel periodically between Louisville, Lexington, and Cincinnati
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- 5+ years of experience in business systems administration, IT management, or a related role
- Experience leading a software implementation, systems migration, or similar technology transition preferred
- Experience in construction, roofing, or field services strongly preferred
- Experience with mobile device provisioning/management (MDM) a plus
Physical Requirements
- Primarily an office environment, with prolonged periods of sitting and computer work
- Occasional lifting of up to 25-30 pounds (equipment and hardware setup)
- Periodic travel between Louisville, Lexington, and Cincinnati, including some driving
Additional Expectations
We are looking for a candidate who is proactive, resourceful, and comfortable owning a project of this scale from planning through execution. This role requires someone who can move easily between big-picture systems strategy and hands-on, day-to-day support - and who takes pride in keeping our teams equipped, supported, and productive.
