Director, Business Development – Licensing and Commercial Supply

Position Summary

Bio-Techne is hiring a Director of Business Development for Licensing and Commercial Supply. The successful candidate will manage the licensing & OEM Business Development team in North America, aiming to grow sales revenue through OEM and strategic supply partnerships. The ideal candidate has experience attracting, prospecting, and closing new business opportunities, retaining existing accounts by presenting new solutions and services, and meeting revenue and profit targets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop strategies for OEM and licensing relationships, prioritizing growth markets and target organizations.
  • Analyze industry trends and strategic directions, focusing on emerging technologies and applications.
  • Create engagement models for licensing, supply agreements, and OEM, including business terms and standard agreements.
  • Prospect, qualify, and develop relationships with new and existing clients to build pipeline and close deals.
  • Plan for and hire additional team members as needed, working within a matrixed organization.
  • Build relationships with customer champions and stakeholders for long-term strategic planning.
  • Lead contract negotiations to protect margins and build trust.
  • Collaborate with marketing, product management, and sales teams to develop selling strategies and product offerings.
  • Secure customer references for testimonials, industry events, and outreach.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science required.
  • 10+ years in business development, especially in OEM and/or CRO/CDMO markets.
  • 5+ years in the life sciences industry.
  • MS/PhD and relevant experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Customer-centric approach with proactive needs anticipation.
  • Ability to quickly learn technical aspects of product lines.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills for technical audiences.
  • Negotiation skills and ability to sell a broad portfolio.
  • Experience with CRM systems like Salesforce.
  • Flexibility to work across enterprise functions and manage multiple stakeholders.
Additional Information
