Job summary

The City of Mansfield seeks an experienced leader to direct building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and general inspectors and staff. You will enforce building codes, oversee planning and permitting operations, and guide technical advisory activities with City boards and committees.

Ideal candidates have ICC CBO certification, 7+ years in code enforcement with 5+ in supervision, and a strong track record in cross-department collaboration and public communication.

Qualifications

• ICC Certified Building Official (CBO) designation required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Public Administration, or a related field preferred; extensive relevant experience may substitute education.
• Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License required.
• Seven or more years enforcing building codes; at least five years in a supervisory role.
• Plumbing Inspector’s License (Texas) preferred; ICC certifications in building inspection or plan review preferred.
• Experience with permit management software and electronic plan review platforms preferred.

Responsibilities

• Direct, assign, and evaluate work of inspectors and staff; set expectations and develop staff.
• Oversee building code enforcement and consistent resolution of violations.
• Ensure safety standards and compliance with codes; coordinate with other departments.
• Oversee plan review, permit issuance, fee collection, and contractor registration.
• Provide technical support to boards and participate in Development Review Committee meetings.
• Review design and construction for City facilities and maintain inspection records and reports.
• Perform additional duties as organizational needs evolve.
