Job summary

University of Dayton seeks an accomplished Director, Applied Sensing to lead the growth and strategic direction of the Applied Sensing research within UDRI. You will secure major programs, cultivate sponsor relationships, oversee diverse technical initiatives, and develop high-performing teams delivering impactful results.

Reporting to the Executive Director, you will drive proposals, manage budgets, ensure compliance, and shape the office's mission with emphasis on DEI and safety policies in

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or relevant field.
• Over 10 years of related experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience.
• Supervisory experience managing diverse teams of 15+ professionals.
• Experience managing operations of engineering/testing facilities.
• Proven track record in profit/loss, budgeting, and securing funding.
• Proven track record in marketing and roadmap strategies for autonomous systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven success in generating $3-5 million in sponsored program revenues annually.
• U.S. citizen able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead growth and strategic direction of Applied Sensing research.
• Secure new business opportunities and expand testing, characterization and research programs.
• Engage sponsors and clients to assess needs and build long-term relationships.
• Prepare major research proposals and ensure timely, budget-compliant delivery.
