Job summary

North is seeking a Director of Applied AI Engineering to build and lead an applied AI team that moves AI capabilities from prototype to production within regulated financial services workflows. The role emphasizes delivery, collaboration with Product, Risk, Compliance, and Legal, and establishing guardrails for explainability and safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience
• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, machine learning, or a related domain
• 2+ years building and shipping production systems on top of large language models (LLMs)
• 4+ years of management experience with hiring and mentoring teams
• Exceptional leadership skills in a fast-paced environment
• Hands-on approach to debugging a misbehaving agent in production

Responsibilities

• Build and lead a high-performing Applied AI engineering team, defining standards and engagement strategy
• Collaborate with Product, customers, and stakeholders to translate workflows into AI solutions
• Drive rapid discovery and production deployment of AI capabilities across projects
• Architect, deploy, and maintain production AI solutions and agentic tools
• Establish modular integrations for secure data access with least-privilege controls
• Own AI evaluation lifecycle with offline/online evals and production readiness criteria
• Oversee CI/CD, monitoring, incident response, latency, and cost optimization
