Job summary

Instructure is standing up an AI Center of Excellence, and we're seeking a Director, AI Transformation to lead it. You'll own the system that makes us an AI-native company: shared infrastructure, governance, a cross-functional roadmap, and a clear read on impact.

You'll partner with senior leaders to turn AI pilots into scalable capabilities, define standard metrics, and report progress through an AI efficiency scorecard.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in technology, data, or product roles, including leadership of teams.
• 2+ years working directly with AI or ML systems and modern AI tooling.
• Deep understanding of infrastructure, data, and security for production AI systems.
• Strong governance instincts for security, privacy, and quality.
• Proven ability to influence across an organization and build coalitions.
• Bias for clear metrics and honest reporting on progress.
• Experience building enablement and training programs that change work practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to explain complex topics to non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Build the AI Foundation: stand up shared AI infrastructure, data boundaries, model registry, and a standard AI stack.
• Set governance: establish a governance council with security, privacy, approvals, and quality monitoring.
• Own the roadmap: define AI COE priorities with other departments.
• Prove impact: define metrics for cost, throughput, and quality; report progress via an AI efficiency scorecard.
• Build capability: create centralized training libraries and enablement programs.
• Lead the operating model: centralized-expertise, decentralized-execution.
• Grow the team: hire and develop Center of Excellence staff including AI engineers and admins.
