Job summary

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in CS/data science/AI/engineering or related field.
  • 7+ years building and managing product or technology initiatives.
  • 2+ years leading AI/ML or data science initiatives.
  • 3+ years healthcare/academic medicine or similarly complex environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in product strategy, technical architecture, and cross-functional team leadership.
  • Experience developing and deploying AI/ML solutions in clinical or health system settings.
  • Strong understanding of AI/ML fundamentals (Generative AI, NLP, CV), coding in R and Python, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure/Databricks), AI tools (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn, Hugging Face), and Git/GitHub.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the strategic vision for the AI Products and Technology Core, including scalable AI-enabled products.

Summary

The Center for AI & Digital Experience (AIDE)is a joint, mission-driven center jointly established betweenUniversity Hospitals (UH)–Northeast Ohio Medical University(NEOMED) to focus on advancing human-centered artificialintelligence in healthcare.

The Director, AI Studio, is the senior leader of the Product andTechnology Core within the Center for AIDE. The Director willprovide strategic leadership for the design, development, andimplementation of AI-driven products (i.e., models, algorithms, andapplications) for research, operational solutions, and innovationwithin AIDE. This role serves as the primary lead over the AIproduct strategy, technical architecture, and developmentengineering, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities andregulatory requirements. The Director is responsible for advancinga portfolio of innovative initiatives, including large-scaleapplied AI projects in medicine and healthcare operations, and forestablishing the infrastructure, processes, and partnerships tosupport sustainable development, enabling efficientdeployment.

Principal Functional Responsibilities
ProductDevelopment and Technical Leadership

Define and executethe strategic vision for the AI Products and Technology Core,including development of a scalable portfolio of AI-enabledproducts. Lead front-end product lifecycle activities, includingconcept development, feasibility assessment, research or businesscase development, technical design, model development, andvalidation. Establish and inspect system architecture and technicalstandards to ensure interoperability and compliance withinstitutional regulatory requirements. Collaborate with internal ITteams and external partners (as needed) to align infrastructure,data access, and security protocols for scalability. Oversee all AImodel development and implementation efforts to ensure performancequality.

Program Oversight and Execution

Directaportfolio of high-impact, large-scale AI initiatives designed toaddress strategic institutional research, clinical priorities, andoperational excellence. Establish and implement a formal intake,evaluation, and prioritization process for project selection. Leadresource allocation and execution planning for selectedinitiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals andavailable capacity. Oversee project timelines and the benchperformance of all deliverables. Recruit and supervise keypersonnel supporting this portfolio. Ensure that projects progressfrom pilot testing through validation testing and, whereappropriate, into potential commercialization pathways.

Operations, Infrastructure, and ProgramEnablement

Develop and operationalize core processesrequired to support AI product development, including complianceand risk mitigation strategies. Establish foundational technicalinfrastructure to enable efficient development and validation of AIsolutions. Partner with institutional stakeholders to integrateexisting initiatives into the AI Product and Technology Corestructure and ensure coordinated execution. Support the developmentof mechanisms for learner and trainee engagement in AI initiatives,including structured opportunities for student participation inapplied projects.

Governance and Institutional Integration

Workclosely with executive leadership to ensure alignment of AIinitiatives with institutional strategy. Coordinate with the AIEnablement Senior Manager to ensure responsible development andenablement of AI technologies for subsequent deployment. Serve as akey liaison between academic, clinical, and operationalstakeholders to facilitate the adoption and integration of AIsolutions. Provide subject matter expertise and strategic guidanceon emerging AI trends and their application within healthcare andeducation. Communicate complexities of AI effectively withAI-fluent and non-AI fluent team members, clinicians, and executiveleadership.

Administrative and Program ManagementResponsibilities

Develop and manage budgets for AI Productand Technology Core operations and project portfolios. Contributeto strategic planning, reporting, and performance evaluationactivities. Support the development of materials to communicateprogram goals, outcomes, and impact to internal and externalstakeholders. Directly supervise and evaluate multiple employees,including product managers, AI/ML engineers, solutions architects,data engineers, etc.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in computer science, data science, artificialintelligence, engineering, or a related field.
  • 7 years of experience building and managing product ortechnology initiatives.
  • Minimum of 2 years of leading AI/ML or data scienceinitiatives.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in healthcare, academicmedicine, or a similarly complex environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in product strategy, technicalarchitecture, and cross-functional team leadership.
  • Experience developing and deploying AI or machine learningsolutions in clinical or health system settings.
  • Demonstrated understanding of AI/ML fundamentals (GenerativeAI, NLP, computer vision), coding in R and Python, familiarity withcloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, MS Azure/Databricks), modernAI tools (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn, Hugging Face), andversion control (Git/GitHub).
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD degree in computer science, data science, artificialintelligence, engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with innovation program leadership, startupincubation, or product commercialization.
  • Familiarity with regulatory, ethical, and governanceconsiderations related to AI in healthcare.
  • Experience working with academic, clinic, and operationalstakeholders.
  • Certificate in human-centered design or design thinking (e.g.,IDEOU, LUMA Institute, IBM Design Thinking).
Physical Requirements

Must be able to utilize a phone,computer, and other office equipment. Must be able and willing todrive to locations within one hour of Cleveland, Ohio and travel tooff-site events and educational sessions.
