Job summary

Kirkland & Ellis seeks a Director of Risk Management (AI & Technology Governance) to lead governance, risk controls, and policy for emerging AI technologies. The role collaborates with Risk Management, IG, IT, and the Office of the General Counsel to embed responsible AI across the firm.

Based in Chicago or New York, the position emphasizes stakeholder engagement, governance design, and continuous improvement while guiding AI risk initiatives and information governance programs.

Qualifications

• Education: Undergraduate degree in AI, information technology, law, compliance, information management, or records management.
• Advanced degree in information management, computer science, artificial intelligence, or law preferred.
• AI and technology risk expertise: assess risks with emerging information technologies and enterprise AI.
• Strategic and technical capability: systems design, critical thinking, change management, and project management.
• Leadership and collaboration: influence stakeholders, mentor colleagues, and communicate with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Technology knowledge: familiarity with Anthropic Claude, Harvey AI, Legora, Intapp, and/or iManage is a plus.
• Microsoft expertise: proficiency with Microsoft Office and 365.

Responsibilities

• Enable AI innovation while building governance, controls, and risk frameworks.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives spanning the lifecycle of information in AI technologies.
• Provide functional leadership to employees and contractors supporting AI risk initiatives.
• Coach IG colleagues and strengthen capabilities across the team.
• Collaborate with GCs, IT, and senior attorneys to align with firm policies.
