Job summary

RBC Capital Markets in New Jersey is seeking a Director of Regulatory Engagement for Responsible AI to lead strategic regulatory engagement across Canada, US, EU, and APAC. You will shape governance, policy, and risk management aligned with evolving AI regulations.

You will collaborate with Legal, Risk, and Compliance, engaging senior leaders and regulators to drive credible AI governance programs and timely responses to inquiries.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in regulatory affairs, compliance, risk management, or related functions at a regulated financial institution.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive regulatory engagement strategy for AI governance across all relevant jurisdictions.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies on AI governance, policy, and compliance matters.
  • Maintain deep monitoring of emerging AI regulations and regulatory expectations; communicate implications to senior leadership.
  • Prepare and present regulatory submissions, self-assessments, and responses to regulatory inquiries related to AI governance.
  • Partner with Legal, Risk, and Compliance functions to align messaging and ensure regulatory credibility.
  • Partner with business lines, technology, risk management, and second-line functions to operationalize regulatory expectations.
  • Advise senior leaders and governance committees on regulatory risk, compliance readiness, and strategic options.
  • Facilitate effective challenge and governance improvements to strengthen regulatory confidence.
  • Manage escalation pathways for regulatory matters requiring executive or board-level attention.
  • Develop compelling, evidence-based narratives that demonstrate RBC's strong AI governance posture.
  • Maintain regulatory calendars and coordinate responses to supervisory requests with appropriate timeliness and quality.
  • Build and maintain relationships with regulatory contacts across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Monitor AI governance maturity, identify compliance gaps, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support regulatory exams, inquiries, and audit activities related to AI governance.
  • Track regulatory findings, action plans, and closure supporting evidence.

What is the Opportunity?
  • The Director, Regulatory Engagement - Responsible AI is responsible for leading RBC's strategic regulatory engagement initiatives related to artificial intelligence governance, compliance, and risk management. This role bridges RBC's internal AI governance frameworks with external regulatory expectations across multiple jurisdictions (Canada, US, EU, APAC). The Director will develop and execute a proactive regulatory engagement strategy while ensuring alignment with evolving AI regulations, including the EU AI Act and emerging domestic frameworks.
What will you do?
Regulatory Strategy & Engagement
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive regulatory engagement strategy for AI governance across all relevant jurisdictions
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies on AI governance, policy, and compliance matters
  • Maintain deep monitoring of emerging AI regulations and regulatory expectations; communicate implications to senior leadership
  • Prepare and present regulatory submissions, self-assessments, and responses to regulatory inquiries related to AI governance

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Develop compelling, evidence-based narratives that demonstrate RBC's strong AI governance posture
  • Maintain regulatory calendars and coordinate responses to supervisory requests with appropriate timeliness and quality
  • Build and maintain relationships with regulatory contacts across multiple jurisdictions
Risk & Compliance Oversight
  • Monitor AI governance maturity, identify compliance gaps, and recommend corrective actions
  • Support regulatory exams, inquiries, and audit activities related to AI governance
  • Track regulatory findings, action plans, and closure supporting evidence
What will you need to succeed?
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in regulatory affairs, compliance, risk management, or related functions at a regulated financial institution
  • 5+ years of experience in regulatory engagement or policy development roles
  • Demonstrated experience with banking regulations
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complex technical concepts for regulatory audiences
  • Strategic thinking with ability to anticipate regulatory trends and position RBC proactively
  • Strong stakeholder management and influence skills; ability to work effectively across matrix organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to build credibility with senior regulators and external stakeholders
  • Project management and attention to detail in managing complex regulatory submissions
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and work effectively in a rapidly evolving regulatory environment
