We are seeking an innovative and strategic AI Leader to join our news organization as the Director of AI Innovation. This pivotal role will focus on enhancing newsroom workflows, editorial decision-making, and consumer-facing products through effective AI integration. It requires deep expertise in editorial operations—someone who can bridge journalistic principles with breakthrough AI solutions. This role will champion AI as an empowering catalyst for the newsroom, expanding CNN’s tools and offerings while safeguarding our editorial integrity.

Specifically, this position will lead efforts to develop impactful AI use cases and innovations across CNN Worldwide. Responsibilities include leading AI initiatives across all news gathering and editorial departments, ensuring the safeguarding and monetization of AI capabilities.

Your Role Accountabilities…

1. Enhanced Editorial Decision-Making: Understand journalistic principles to develop AI frameworks that analyze data and provide actionable insights, empowering editorial teams to make smarter, more informed decisions.
2. Development of AI Tools: Lead efforts to identify opportunities to transform workflows with AI-driven solutions, collaborating with stakeholders across Editorial, Programming, Digital Products & Services, and Newsgathering to develop shared strategies.
3. Implementation & Adoption: Oversee the integration of new AI tools into newsroom workflows, develop metrics to monitor progress, and report outcomes to leadership.
4. Consumer-Facing Integrations & Enhancements: Collaborate to develop AI-enhanced solutions that drive business goals and strategic execution.
5. Business Partnership: Partner with business functions to understand data and AI insights, informing monetization strategies and guiding negotiations.
6. Monetization Innovation: Develop proofs of concept for monetization strategies leveraging AI, such as archival footage or subscriber offerings.
7. Thought Leadership and Education: Stay at the forefront of AI trends in media, educating leadership and promoting AI adoption.
8. Journalistic Standards of Excellence: Ensure AI tools and outputs adhere to CNN’s standards for accuracy, fairness, and transparency, partnering with Standards & Legal teams.
9. Advocacy for AI Ethics: Promote responsible AI use, addressing misinformation and safeguarding journalistic integrity.
10. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with corporate partners and divisions on AI initiatives, advocating for the editorial perspective.
11. Partner with AI Task Force: Provide editorial input and guidance on AI developments.

Qualifications & Experience…

• Expertise: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in Journalism, Data Science, or related field with strong AI understanding preferred.
• Experience: 10-15 years in senior editorial roles within media or tech, with a track record of collaborating on technological solutions in editorial contexts.
• Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of AI tools, data analysis, machine learning, and consumer product development.
• Leadership Skills: Ability to lead diverse teams and communicate complex concepts effectively.
• Strategic Mindset: Strong business acumen to align AI initiatives with organizational goals.

In compliance with law, the salary range for this role is $138,600 - $257,400 annually, with additional benefits such as bonuses, incentives, health coverage, retirement plans, and paid time off.
