Job Description

The Insights and Decision Science (IDS) team is dedicated to enabling improved decision making at Novartis by leveraging superior data to identify actionable insights that drive enhanced performance. We collaborate closely with the US business, bringing insights and challenging ideas to empower smarter, data-driven decision-making. Reporting into the VP, Head, AI and Innovation, the Director of AI and Innovation UX plays a crucial role in delivering a superior UX experience for all AI products across Novartis.

This position leads the team responsible for developing user interfaces to promote broader usage and adoption of AI products. By overseeing collaboration with end-users to create effective data visualization tools, the Director of AI and Innovation UX transforms innovative ideas into visually appealing tools that facilitate insight generation. Responsibilities include developing UX wireframes, overseeing usability testing, and conducting UX benchmarking to develop an innovative user experience. This role ensures seamless collaboration across functions, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence, ultimately contributing to pharmaceutical development and patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead strategic planning and oversight of design research to identify user needs and enhance data product experiences
  2. Conduct periodic benchmarking against top tools to integrate UX innovations and maintain competitiveness
  3. Oversee wireframe creation and usability testing to improve user experience intuitiveness and satisfaction
  4. Develop strategies to increase AI product usage and ensure effective user interface design
  5. Establish measurement of user engagement with user-centric leading indicators and outcome measures
  6. Encourage collaboration with end-users to create data visualization tools and incorporate feedback for product improvement
  7. Oversee design research and benchmarking to align UI/UX with best practices and explore new design approaches
  8. Build and communicate strategic roadmaps for user experience projects to achieve objectives
  9. Ensure user experience initiatives address key business objectives like user engagement and product usability

Essential Requirements:

Novartis seeks an individual with a robust background in User-Experience Design and Innovation. The candidate should have a proven track record in designing user interfaces that lead to impactful user experiences and meet business needs. Adept at comprehensive design principles, the candidate must collaborate effectively with stakeholders to bring visions to life while meeting key milestones. A commitment to continuous improvement in AI solutions, driven by data insights and industry trends, is vital.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is required; MBA preferred
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in digital design, interaction, and visual design, ideally in the pharma/life sciences industry
  • Proficient in design and prototyping tools such as Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD, or similar
  • Strong understanding of UX/UI principles and methodologies
  • Familiarity with AI technologies and their application in product design
  • Ability to foster cross-functional alignment among key stakeholders to create a disciplined, collaborative, global operating platform
  • Strategic planning skills with a focus on operational enhancements to increase quality and effectiveness
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder and team collaboration
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, multifunctional team environment
  • Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and customer-focused

The pay range at the start of employment is expected to be between $168,000 and $312,000 annually. Salary ranges are effective from 1/1/25 through 12/31/25, but market fluctuations may necessitate adjustments. Final pay will depend on factors such as location, experience, and skills. Compensation may include a sign-on bonus, stock units, discretionary awards, and benefits such as health, retirement, and paid time off. Details will be provided upon offer. Employees are at-will, and the company reserves the right to modify compensation and benefits.
