Job summary

Novartis is seeking a Director of AI Foundations Engineering to lead the strategy, delivery, and operational excellence of the agentic AI operating system. You will guide architecture, development, and governance with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable AI services.

The role emphasizes engineering leadership, systems thinking, and a vision for transforming processes into agentic AI products. Remote work within the U.S. is possible, with travel as defined by the Hiring Manager.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of AI engineering experience, with a strong track record of leading product strategy, roadmap development, and delivery for complex digital, data, or AI-enabled products.
• Demonstrated experience in AI and data-driven product environments, translating business needs into scalable product solutions and partnering with technical teams.
• Strong cross-functional leadership across Engineering, Innovation, Design, Data Science, Commercial, and other business teams.
• Experience managing and developing product managers or junior product leaders, including coaching and prioritization support.
• Excellent strategic, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to communicate vision, priorities, and outcomes to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and ongoing improvement of the organization's AI foundations to enable use cases.
• Define and implement an agentic AI foundational system, engineering standards, and development practices for scalability and reliability.
• Partner with product, data, infrastructure, security, and business teams to align platform capabilities with enterprise needs.
• Oversee engineering teams in building reusable platform services, tools, and components for agentic AI products.
• Drive modernization and integration to connect existing systems with AI capabilities.
• Monitor operations and user feedback to identify improvements and optimize performance.
• Establish operating models, support processes, and governance for consistent AI delivery.
• Communicate priorities, progress, risks, and investments to senior leaders and stakeholders.
