Job summary

Nscale is seeking a Director, Data Hall Design to lead the physical design of AI infrastructure inside data halls. You will translate GPU, networking, storage, and cooling requirements into precise, buildable design packages for construction, procurement, and operations teams.

You will establish standards, templates, and quality processes while growing a global data hall design team. This is a hands-on leadership role at launch with broad cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in data hall design or related IT infra fields.
• Deep experience designing physical infrastructure for high-density compute.
• Strong knowledge of GPU cluster physical design (NVIDIA DGX/HGX, SuperPOD or similar).
• Strong understanding of high-speed networking physical design (InfiniBand, 100G/400G/800G Ethernet).
• Expertise in structured cabling and fiber infrastructure (OS2, OM3/4/5).
• Production-quality design documentation: data hall layouts, rack elevations, BOMs, diagrams.
• Experience developing procurement-ready BOMs for complex data halls.
• Familiarity with DCIM, IPAM and asset management platforms (NetBox, Nlyte, Sunbird).
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Visio and related design/DCIM tools.
• Knowledge of rack-level and row-level power distribution (PDUs, busway).
• Experience collaborating with MEP, construction, procurement, operations teams.
• Ability to set standards and deliver buildable designs.

Responsibilities

• Own data hall layout design across the AI data center portfolio from concept through construction-ready packages.
• Design rack layouts optimizing GPU topology, cooling, power distribution, and cable management.
• Translate network architecture into physical designs for spine-leaf and other topologies.
• Produce data hall deliverables: layout plans, rack elevations, cable plans, BOMs, topology diagrams.
• Develop and maintain data hall cabling standards and fiber layouts.
• Incorporate thermal and power requirements, including hot/cold aisle strategies and cooling.
• Develop procurement-ready BOMs and asset documentation standards.
• Collaborate with network engineering, IT, MEP, construction, procurement, and operations.
• Build reusable design standards, templates, and quality review processes.
• Stay current on AI hardware evolution and integrate into design practice.
• Grow and lead the data hall design team with a focus on quality and delivery pace.
• Turn data hall designs into competitive advantage for rapid AI deployment.
