Job summary

OpenAI's Compute organization seeks a Data Center Design Manager to coordinate infrastructure for large-scale AI deployments. You will translate infrastructure requirements into buildable design packages and manage milestones across disciplines.

You will lead multidisciplinary reviews, align technical decisions with project requirements, and partner with construction, commissioning, operations, and hardware teams to deliver reliable, scalable facilities.

Qualifications

• Experience managing multidisciplinary design for data centers or mission-critical facilities.
• Technical understanding of data center infrastructure and interfaces among power, cooling, controls, structures, and networks.
• Ability to read technical drawings and identify interface gaps with discipline experts.
• Experience coordinating external design consultants and construction partners.
• Strong written and verbal communication and disciplined issue tracking.

Responsibilities

• Manage design scope, milestones, dependencies, and construction support from concept to detailed design.
• Coordinate civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, controls, and network interfaces across campuses.
• Translate requirements into coordinated design criteria and resolve gaps with leads.
• Lead multidisciplinary design reviews and track comments through resolution prior to release.
• Evaluate design changes for reliability, safety, cost, and schedule impacts with partners.
• Maintain design documentation and handoff requirements; incorporate field lessons into standards.
