Job summary

American Express seeks a Director of AI Engineering – Agentic AI to lead strategy, architecture, and execution of agentic AI systems at scale. You will build and guide high‑performing teams, set architectural standards, and drive enterprise‑ready AI platforms with strong security and governance.

You will collaborate with product, design, and business partners to shape the vision and roadmap, invest in platform direction, and ensure delivery of reliable autonomous systems across the organization.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience building large‑scale distributed systems and ML infrastructure.
• Strong experience leading and growing engineering teams through complex deliveries.
• Proven track record guiding projects from inception to production as a technical leader.
• Ability to influence across organizational boundaries and across teams.

Responsibilities

• Drive technical direction for agentic AI initiatives and system design.
• Lead production‑grade agentic AI systems across multiple products.
• Own shared agentic AI capabilities including planning, memory and RAG pipelines.
• Lead design reviews, navigate tradeoffs related to autonomy, safety and scalability.
• Partner with product and business teams to deliver enterprise AI solutions.
